My Favorite Authors and Books

Updated: Jul 28

I know you may be thinking... this page is to promote my book, why am I writing about already established authors? Truth is, I was inspired by some of them to even begin writing and some are just my guilty pleasures. Please keep in mind, there is no specific order to the list.

  1. J.K. Rowling: I'll never forget the first time I read the first Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. I was in middle school and realizing fantasy was very fascinating. J.K. Rowling had the gift of sending you in a different world and creating a character as if they were right in front of you. This is when I realized I loved to read books.

  2. Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise.... need I say more? Her flow of poetry, the way they made me feel after reading them was like no other. Forever one of my favorite author, poet, and floetry.

  3. Michelle G. Stradford: I'm Rising: Determined.Confident. Powerful. This book allowed me to tap into my emotions and thoughts. Honestly this book helped me understand that my own work and helped me create my poetry collection. The way she expressed her poems is a work of art.

  4. Pierre Alex Jeanty: It's a tie between HER. and Apologies That Never Came. He expressed his hurt, unity, and healing from his own experiences. The way that he captures women's strengths and beauty is also a gift and drew me closer to his poetry. Just like me, he is a Haitian-American author and poet... so of course I had to give his books a shot!

  5. The Freedom Writers with Erin Gruwell: I remember seeing the movie when I was young and that made me start writing in a journal. I will never forget how each student would write about their everyday lives and struggles. I read the book years later and it still lead me to that same feeling as when I first saw the movie.

I can go on forever....lol. But tell me, who is your favorite author, poet, or book? What made you interested in reading?
